Hytale Update 1: New Content, Balance Changes & Bug Fixes

Welcome to the first major update for Hytale Early Access! This patch introduces new environmental content, significant quality-of-life improvements, and a host of bug fixes as we continue to refine the game based on community feedback. Our commitment remains to provide frequent updates to enhance your adventure in Orbis.

World & Environment Updates

  • New Underground Inhabitants: Dinosaurs and other NPCs have been added to populate underground jungles. Note: These use placeholder behaviors and require newly generated chunks to appear.
  • Enhanced Atmospherics: Devastated Lands sewers now have proper environmental effects and creature spawns. Areas beneath volcanoes now use volcanic ambiance.
  • World Polish: Fixed entity placements, textures, and interiors in Feran villages. Removed an invisible block behind the bench in the Forgotten Temple.

NPCs, Creatures & AI Tweaks

  • Behavior & Combat: Added knockback resistance to appropriate NPCs. Fire-themed creatures are now immune to fire damage (though visual effects remain). Improved the Crystal Earth Golem's spin attack.
  • Damage Fixes: Skeletons no longer take drowning damage. Kweebecs are now immune to cactus and bramble environmental damage.
  • Loot & Animations: Added proper loot tables to Kweebecs and Trorks in the Whisperfrost Frontiers. Replaced the Trork Shaman's placeholder summon animation.

Crafting, Items & Farming Overhaul

  • Backpack Accessibility: Base backpack recipe now requires a Tier 1 Workbench (down from Tier 2) and costs 8 Medium Leather (down from 16). First upgrade now requires Tier 2 (down from Tier 3).
  • Workbench Range Increased: Crafting benches can now pull materials from chests within 14 blocks horizontally and 6 blocks vertically (increased from 7 and 4).
  • Tool & Food Balance:
    • Pickaxes and hatchets now only swing on primary action.

    • Corn now correctly gives 1 Essence of Life (was 4).
    • Fully grown Cauliflower, Pumpkin, and Eternal Crops no longer drop seeds when broken.
  • UI & Tooltip Clarity: Wood Logs now display their type (e.g., "Hardwood"). Recipes requiring specific logs now show which trees drop them. The Woodcutter's Block is now correctly classified as decorative furniture.
  • Utility Fixes: Dropped items no longer get stuck on block sides. Torches can now be placed from the Utility Slot while holding a pickaxe/hatchet.

Audio & Visual Effects Polish

  • New Sound Effects: Added new hit/break sounds for stone and ores. Replaced torch loop with a softer ambient sound. Horses now play proper running sounds while mounted.
  • Volume & Pitch Adjustments: Adjusted volumes for cocoon breaking, pigs, and warthogs. Reduced pitch variation on sword swings.
  • New Particle Effects: Added ore-breaking particles, fruit-eating particles, and a new effect for absorbing NPC memories. Updated health potion visuals with new glitter and spiral effects.
